Our Current Participating Schools

Whitney Elementary

Eisenhower High School

Wilson Middle School
All students benefit.
Through our peer mentoring program, both the mentor and mentees benefit from the experience. Peer mentors are found to increase self-awareness and foster personal growth
while also improving communication and interpersonal skills.

Mentees are guided by the high schoolers on time management, getting organized, getting involved in high school, communicating with peers and teachers, and navigating high school.
How It Works:
Application & Orientation Process
Both high school students and elementary/middle school students fill out an application.
-
High school mentor applications include a personal interest form, teacher recommendations, guardian signature, and admin signature.
-
Elementary/Middle School mentee applications include a personal interest form and guardian signature.
Both high school students and elementary/middle school complete an orientation.
-
The mentor orientation includes program rules/regulation, attachment theory, ACES, mandatory reporting, and scenario practice.
-
The mentee orientation includes program rules/regulation and making the most out our your mentoring experience.
Mentoring Meetings
High school students walk down to their prospective school with a Safe Yakima Valley Staff Member.
-
High school mentors meet with their mentee during the mentee's lunch time.
-
Monthly activities are planned according to the mentee's needs (e.g lesson on bullying, coping, strengths, community service, etc.)
Mentoring Events and Campus Tours
All mentors and mentees in our mentoring program are invited to our annual mentoring events. High school campus tours are also provided to middle school mentees by their high school mentors.
