  • Reside in the Yakima County

  • Agree to a 9 month commitment, 4 hours a month

  • Complete the full application process (see below)

Application Process

  • Complete Application

This includes personal contact information, employer and education background, references, interest page, and participation agreement.

-Any one is welcome to apply! This information just helps us match the applicant with a student with similar interests and goals!

  • Pass National Background Check

We send and pay for the cost of a national background check.

  • Phone Interview

We ask that all our applicants complete a phone interview with a Safe Yakima Mentor Coordinator. This helps us get to know you better and match you with the best fit student!

  • Reference Check

Safe Yakima Mentor Coordinators call each of the applicant's references to answer some more questions about the applicant.

  • Orientation and Handbook

Once all the steps above are complete, we reach out to the applicant to set up a virtual orientation. This orientation is where we go over program rules and regulations, attachment theory, ACES, mandatory reporting, approved activities, program resources and support, and answer any questions the applicant may have. Once orientation is complete, the applicant must sign our program handbook agreeing to participate in the program.

  • Match Meeting!

Once all the steps above are complete, we are ready to match the applicant with a student! We cross reference both the mentor and mentee's application to choose the best fit for all parties. Factors that could affect this are geographical location, school location, personal interests, and student age.
