Prevention Clubs in Schools

Yakima, Toppenish, and Grandview

Safe Yakima Valley staff coordinates multiple prevention clubs within the schools of Yakima County.  Prevention Club is a space where students can engage in peer-led activities, develop leadership skills, and participate in initiatives that promote healthy choices, substance abuse prevention, and overall well-being within their schools and communities. Through outreach, education, and special events, we strive to improve and safeguard our community by encouraging positive lifestyle choices and providing opportunities for youth to thrive.

What Our Prevention
Clubs Are Doing!

Each year our students do amazing work within the communities. We are excited to highlight some of Safe Yakima Valley Prevention Club growth and successes!

Increased Membership

The SPARK Club has seen an increase in membership this year, with interest among students in drug and alcohol prevention.

Successful Events

The SPARK club successfully hosted several key tabling events, including Red Ribbon Week, National Drug and Alcohol Facts Week (NDAFW), and the Mental Health Awareness tabling, educating students on substance abuse prevention and mental health resources.

Community Engagement

Through initiatives like the Sticker Shock campaign and our recent environmental scan, the SPARK club effectively engaged local retailers and the community, promoting responsible behaviors around alcohol sales and consumption. Our latest project involved conducting an environmental scan to assess local needs and resources related to substance abuse prevention.

Active Participation in Outreach

The club actively participated in the school’s college and career fairs, to provide information on prevention and recruit more peers into the club.
